Charging without API support

Choosing the correct type of schedule for your car

All electric cars can smart charge with Ohme, but some provide access to the battery state of charge which allows for more precise charging. To ensure you get the most out of Ohme, make sure you choose the correct type of schedule for your car.

Some car manufacturers provide an API (Application Programming Interface) which allows access to information about your car via your manufacturer’s smartphone app. Providing your login details in the Ohme app allows Ohme to see your car's current state of charge, which is then used to work out how much charge you need.

Precise charging support is an Ohme Labs feature and is currently available for the following manufacturers:

  • BMW
  • Hyundai
  • Jaguar
  • Land Rover
  • Kia
  • Nissan
  • Renault
  • Tesla
  • MINI

For more information, please see ‘Charging with API support’

If you have a car without an API (or an API with which we're not yet integrated) you'll need to create a schedule that specifies the percentage you would like to add to the current amount of charge displayed in your car.

For example, if you regularly return home with ~30% charge and want your vehicle to have ~80% charge ready for the morning, you'll need to create a schedule asking Ohme to add 50% charge.

If you create a schedule asking Ohme to add charge in excess of 100%, you might receive an alert to tell you that your car isn't charging as expected. This isn't anything to worry about, but it's our way of letting you know that we were expecting to deliver more charge.

We’re always working to offer the latest in technology to our customers. As a part of Ohme Labs, we're continuously improving this feature and, from time to time, it may not work as intended. Please note, certain functionality may also be limited based on manufacturer-specific API restrictions or limitations.
